Our Story

News the way it was meant to be read.

We built this because we got tired of not knowing what was real — or how to tell.

The Founder
Jacob Forsythe
Founder & CEO
I built Good News Media because I couldn't tell what was real anymore. I'd open the news and every headline felt designed to make me feel something — angry, scared, outraged — before I'd even read a word. Every outlet had a slant. Every story had an agenda baked into how it was framed. After a while I stopped wanting to read the news at all, because I was tired of being told how to feel about it.

So I built the product I wished existed. One that tells you where a source leans before you read it, checks whether the claims actually hold up, and lets you decide your own reaction. Not to hide from hard news — but to read it on your own terms, with your own judgment intact.

Our Mission

An informed public is a healthier democracy.

Good News Media gives readers back their relationship with the news — not by softening hard truths, but by giving you the context and transparency to judge them yourself.

Bias isn't going away. AI fact-checking isn't perfect. No single outlet has the full picture. So we built a platform that shows you all of that — openly, without hiding the seams.

What We Stand For

Built on principles, not pageviews.

Most news products are optimized for engagement — which means outrage and anxiety. We optimize for something different: your judgment.

Radical Transparency
Every source is labeled. Every bias score is shown. We never hide where information comes from.
Honest AI
Our AI fact-checking shows its reasoning. Claim by claim. Score by score. You decide what to believe.
Reader Control
Filter by mood, bias, topic, or credibility. Your feed should work for you, not the other way around.
No Outrage Bait
We don't rank stories by what makes you angry. We surface what's important, verified, and well-reported.

How We're Different

Built on a fundamentally different assumption.

Every major competitor — AllSides, Ground News, Apple News — labels bias by outlet. Every CNN story gets "Left." Every Fox story gets "Right." The actual content doesn't matter. That's not bias detection. We built something fundamentally different.

Feature Everyone Else Good News Media
Bias Detection Outlet-level only. Every story from CNN = Left. Every story from Fox = Right. Content doesn't matter. Story-level. AI reads the full article and scores the actual language, framing, source selection, and emphasis of each individual story.
Fact Checking Either none, or links to third-party fact-checkers with 24–72hr lag and only covers high-profile claims. Every story. AI extracts specific checkable claims, assesses each one, and assigns confidence scores — within minutes of publication.
Article Analysis Headline and metadata only. No system reads the actual article content. Full article text fetched and read by AI before scoring. Bias, mood, and fact verdicts are based on what the story actually says.
Mood Filtering Not offered. You get whatever the algorithm decides you should feel. Every story is mood-rated: Uplifting, Informative, or Serious. Filter your feed by how you want to feel. You control your emotional diet.
Transparency Black box. Bias scores are assigned by opaque methodology. Fact check verdicts link to external sites. No reasoning shown. Every bias signal is explained. Every fact-check verdict shows the specific claim, the reasoning, and the confidence score. No black boxes.
Perspective View AllSides groups stories by topic manually. No AI analysis of what actually differs between coverage. Automatically clusters stories on the same topic across Left, Center, and Right outlets. AI identifies what each side emphasizes and omits.
Bias Fingerprint No platform shows readers their own consumption patterns or challenges them to diversify. Track your reading diet across the political spectrum. See where you lean. Get nudged toward balance — by data, not lectures.
Business Model Ad-supported. Optimized for clicks and time-on-site. Outrage drives revenue. Free core, paid Pro tier. Zero ads. Revenue model is aligned with reader trust, not reader manipulation.
Why story-level bias matters — a real example
Take the Fed raising rates — covered by three outlets. Reuters publishes a neutral wire report. The NYT frames it as harmful to working families. Fox Business praises it as a win against Democratic spending. Under outlet-based labeling, all three get their permanent labels regardless of content. Under ours, all three are read in full and scored on what they actually say. If Fox publishes a neutral earnings recap, it scores Center. If NPR runs a charged opinion piece, it scores its real lean. The story is what it is — not what its publisher usually does.
Outlet-based labeling
CNN publishes a neutral AP wire story.
Labeled: Left — because it's CNN.
Good News Media
CNN publishes a neutral AP wire story.
Labeled: Center — because the story is neutral.

Common Questions

Things people ask us.

How does your bias labeling work?
Most news platforms label bias by outlet — every CNN story gets "Left," every Fox story gets "Right," regardless of content. We do it differently. Our AI reads each full article and assesses the actual language, framing, source selection, and emphasis of that specific story. A wire service story republished by a partisan outlet can still be rated "Center" if the writing is neutral. An opinion piece from a centrist outlet gets its real lean. We combine the story-level AI assessment with source reputation research for a blended score. No system is perfect, but we believe story-level analysis is meaningfully more accurate than reputation-only labeling.
How does the AI fact checking work?
Each story is analyzed by Claude AI (Anthropic), which identifies specific factual claims, assesses each one for credibility, and assigns a confidence score. It's a tool, not a replacement for critical reading.
Is Good News Media free?
Yes, completely free right now. We plan to introduce a Pro tier with premium features. The core product will always have a free version.
Do you have a political agenda?
No. We pull from Left through Right sources deliberately and label bias openly. If you think we're being unfair to any part of the political spectrum, we want to hear about it.

The Opportunity

Trust in media is at an all-time low.

Americans spend an average of 4+ hours per week consuming news. Yet trust in the media has fallen to historic lows. Nobody has built the transparent, reader-first news platform that this moment demands. We're building it.
